Job Description Job Description Radiation Oncology - Physician - Academic Position Overview We are seeking a Medical Physicist to join our Radiation Oncology Department, where you will engage in clinical care, ensure quality assurance, provide education, and participate in cutting-edge research focused on radiation therapy technologies. This role encompasses patient treatment utilizing various technologies, including external beam radiotherapy, Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), and High-Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy across multiple facilities within our extensive hospital network. Ideal candidates will possess a PhD in Medical Physics and be board certified or eligible, thriving in a collaborative environment that prioritizes research, clinical excellence, and education. Our Radiation Oncology Department is looking to add a Medical Physicist to our vibrant and collegial team within the Medical Physics Division. Job Responsibilities The Medical Physics Division comprises 27 physicists, 16 dosimetrists, 7 residents, and 4 post-doctoral research fellows, operating across 8 locations including the Bodine Center for Cancer Treatment in Center City Philadelphia, Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, Asplundh Cancer Pavilion, Torresdale Hospital, and facilities in New Jersey and Cherry Hill. Our system features advanced equipment such as Varian Linacs, a ViewRay MRI-Linac, and Elekta’s brachytherapy studio. Our Medical Physicists lead a well-funded and impactful research program, exploring topics like functional imaging, artificial intelligence, machine learning, multi-lesion SRS, MR-guided radiation therapy, advanced brachytherapy, radionuclide dosimetry, and physics-led clinical trials. We currently have several funded projects from the National Cancer Institute, vendor-supported research, and funding from the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center. The department also hosts a Medical Physics Residency Program and is actively involved in educating both Medical Physics and Radiation Oncology residents. Position Overview The primary duties of this role will involve patient care through external beam radiotherapy, SRS, SBRT, HDR, and other clinical services as required. The physicist will also play a key role in the daily, monthly, and annual quality assurance processes. Clinical responsibilities will be based at the Center City campus and other locations as necessary. Candidates will have the opportunity to teach medical physics residents. Depending on individual interests, there are chances to engage in advanced clinical practices or to lead significant research initiatives. Faculty appointments will be available for qualified individuals. Applicants should possess a PhD in Medical Physics and be board certified or eligible.
