Description: The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable
for prescribing and coordinating all nursing care as defined by the
Nursing Practice Act. Interventions are carried out in
collaboration with care providers and other members of the
healthcare team in response to patient and family needs. The
Registered Nurse is responsible for care delivery and renders
services to patients ranging from newborn to adult. Duties and
Responsibilities: In accordance with professional nursing standards
and practices, the registered nurse will provide nursing care to
all patients in need. Assesses the patient’s physical, social,
behavioral, and mental status through direct observation,
interview, and medical record review. Includes assessment from
history and data collection obtained from the patient and/or care
providers. Determines mobility, sensory deficits, and skin
condition, adjusting the plan of care as appropriate. Documents a
comprehensive nursing assessment that includes psychosocial,
environmental factors, educational level, and needs. Obtains and
reviews available data and any information collected by other
members of the health team. Identifies medical problems that may
arise from psychological or mental illness and medication use.
Communicates findings with other members of the health team,
including social workers and case managers. Identifies and
addresses needs for admission based on acute medical/surgical
diagnoses and presenting symptoms. Identifies and addresses the
patient’s level of education and learning needs. Makes appropriate
referrals to other disciplines and documents them. Physical demands
include standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending,
and may involve some repetitive motions. The registered nurse will
manage clinical skills in providing nursing care and management of
the patient. This includes the identification of symptoms,
management of diseases, treatment modalities, and administration of
medications. Intervenes appropriately in medical/surgical and
critical emergencies utilizing crisis intervention techniques.
Utilizes critical thinking in assessing patients and in planning
interventions. Follows infection control procedures and protocols
diligently. Provides for the psychosocial needs of all critically
ill patients. Delivers health teaching and medication instructions
to patients and their next of kin. Ensures all procedures are
performed based on established standards of care. Demonstrates
competency in performing all procedures within the defined scope of
practice. Investigates and communicates all required information
regarding unusual occurrences and patient care incidents. Acts as a
patient advocate. Revises the patient’s plan of care based on
evaluation of interventions and expected outcomes in collaboration
with the healthcare team. Ability to communicate effectively in
