The School Nurse will have the responsibility and authority for planning, providing and evaluating care to all students. The School Nurse is responsible to act as liaison for health issues with family and/or guardian. The School Nurse serves as the liaison between each assigned students nursing, medical, psychiatric, and pharmaceutical needs and all internal and external healthcare resources necessary for the effective implementation the ACADEMY Student Experience Model. The Registered Nurse performs all communication and coordination with each students identified circle of supports throughout the students journey with our organization to include the following services: (1) Establishing and Maintaining a Nursing Relationship; (2) Desired Outcome of Nursing and Medical Treatment; (3) Nursing Assessment Services; (4) Nursing and Medical Service Plan Coordination; (5) Nursing Education; (6) Medication Administration Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation; (7) Crisis Management Services (Behavioral and Healthcare); (8) Medical Resource Coordination.The School Nurse is responsible for the overall management and care of students health issues, including medication. The School Nurse will have the responsibility and authority for planning, providing and evaluating care to all students. The School Nurse is responsible to act as liaison for health issues with family and/or guardian. The School Nurse serves as the liaison between each assigned students nursing, medical, psychiatric, and pharmaceutical needs and all internal and external healthcare resources necessary for the effective implementation the ACADEMY Student Experience Model. The Registered Nurse performs all communication and coordination with each students identified circle of supports throughout the students journey with our organization to include the following services:Pay Rate: $38/hourESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Work as a team member in maintaining a clean, healthy, safe environment.Direct and teach staff via in-services (re: Diabetes, Seizure disorders, Epi-Pen and other medical issues and concerns).Acts as part of the admission team as relates to medical issues of potential residential or day students.Attend weekly or monthly ISPs, and other meetings as indicated.Keeps doctors orders up to date and medication supplies available for day students through contact with family/guardian.Maintains the health and safety of all pupils in regard to medications,treatment and emergency meds.Provides various screenings as required, including Scoliosis, physicals for sports, weighing and measuring height monthly.Participates in family meetings when necessary and offers input into IEP/ISP for students.Acts as a consultant regarding the health needs of the student.Monitors and safeguards controlled and other prescribed medications through approved Academy locking procedures.Maintains accurate MARADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESRequests, follows up, documents and educates staff on students medical conditions that requires immediate medication response such as asthma, insect stings. Writes asthma action plans on each student with asthma and alerts staff to such plans.Assesses students ability to understand their medical conditions, need for medications, and ability to self-administer medications. Apprises all education staff of same.Is apprised of planned field trips to prepare for necessary precautions based on students diagnoses and sensitivities.Educates staff on medication undesired effects, i.e. sunburn concerns and certain medications.Administers medication and documents same in accordance with all specific laws and guidelines set by Federal and Board of Nursing, DOE/DDD/DCF. Is knowledgeable of communicable diseases, symptoms and protocol to follow in event of outbreaks. Is knowledgeable about reporting responsibilities to local, state and Federal entities regarding communicable disease.Educates staff as necessaryPerforms these and additional duties as assigned in a legal, professional, ethical and confidential manner in accordance with Federal and State Law, Licensing entities, policy and procedure and HIPAA.Is aware that abuse: physical, sexual, mental/psychological, neglect and exploitation, is against the law and policy. Reports all suspected abuse by staff, parents and others immediately to DDD (and DYFS for students under age of 18) and to appropriate personnel. Cooperates and communicates any information to DDD and/or DYFS during an investigation. Cooperates with Licensing inspections.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (i.e. Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, etc.):Possess a valid, state-specific Registered Nursing license (Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred);Meet all licensing requirements set forth by the respective state of operation;Meet the background check requirements for each states regulations;Successfully pass an initial medical examination and pass a drug screening, which provides evidence that they are free from communicable diseases, including active tuberculosis or conditions which prohibit them from reasonably performing the assigned duties, except as provided for by the ADA. Staff will be reexamined on a regular basis.Experience working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities preferredValid drivers license and auto insuranceAbility to lift between 20 and 50 pounds and provide CPR after certification#INDNJPre-employment screening:Complete criminal backgroundName checked in the registries.
