Job Description Job Description Reporting to the Maintenance
Supervisor or other Manager, the HVAC Mechanic “A” will lead the
daily operation of the HVAC/R shop at the College. This position
will be responsible for the ongoing temperature control and comfort
of the heating and cooling systems at the College to support
academic, lab, administrative, and specialized HVAC/R systems.
POSITION SUMMARY Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Installs, operates, maintains, and repairs complex HVAC/R systems
including water and oil pumps, water analysis and chemical
treatment systems, air compressors, pneumatic, electrical and
mechanical controls, refrigeration, heating, cooling and
ventilating equipment, filters, condensers, cooling towers,
evaporators, and heat exchangers. Responds to HVAC system
complaints, performs troubleshooting of systems and provides
feedback to Supervisors and Managers on progress. Plans and
performs preventative maintenance tasks for College HVAC/R systems
to optimize system performance and energy efficiency. Installs
electric power, piping, controls and duct work to replace, maintain
or to install new equipment. Maintains logs, checklists, and
prepares written reports to Supervisor, as appropriate. Enters
information into the College’s Computerized Maintenance Management
System (CMMS) to document all work, parts used, system conditions,
hours worked, and leverages system data. Ensures compliance with
all safety standards, buildings codes, and environmental
regulations. Leverages Building Automation and Building Management
Systems (BAS/BMS) to prioritize, document, and improve system
performance and facility comfort. Monitor and oversee College and
contractor staff, as needed. Attends training sessions and meetings
to stay current on all trade, College, and regulatory requirements
Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of department spaces.
Prepares list of materials required to maintain inventory and
complete projects. Must respond to emergencies and maintenance
tasks, as required, which may include working off-hours or
holidays. Reports to the College during closures and assists with
snow and ice clearing operations, as needed. Performs any other
duties or task as may be assigned. SPECIAL SKILLS AND
QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma or equivalent
required. Vocational School education or an appropriate
apprenticeship preferred. Completion of a Journeyman level training
program in HVAC/R or associate’s degree in HVAC/R Experience:
Minimum of Six years’ experience maintaining and repairing
sophisticated commercial and industrial air conditioning systems
including electric/pneumatic controls, fume hoods, high capacity
centrifugal refrigeration equipment and roof top units. Must be EPA
Certified Universal Technician in accordance with Section 608 to
handle CFCs, HCFCs, and HFCs Must have NJ Blue Seal Refrigeration
Additional state or local licenses and certifications is a plus
Experience working in an inclusive, collaborative, and respectful
team setting. Embodies a “culture of safety” in all tasks and
recommends safety improvements. Other: Must have a valid Driver’s
License. Must have or obtain a Certified Pool Operator certificate
within 6 months of hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates knowledge of facility operations, maintenance, and
industry standards. Knowledge of power and hand tools, chemical
handing procedures, and associated safety protocols. Knowledge of
computerized building automation systems and building managements
systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google
business suite experience preferred. Provides excellent customer
service to students, faculty, and staff. Excellent organizational,
prioritization, time management, and communication skills.
Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
preferred. Interprets and understands blueprints, schematics,
wiring diagrams, and layouts. Reviews projects and capital
improvement scopes of work to identify opportunities for
improvement. Brazing, soldering, and industry standard pipe joining
techniques. Physical requirements: Prolonged periods walking,
standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders,
or kneeling on uneven surfaces Physically able to operate powered
equipment and tools Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
Able to work in unconditioned, noisy, dimly light, confined, and
odorous spaces, including the ability to work in variable and
sometimes extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow, storms,
heat, cold, and other weather indigenous to the area Must be able
to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for prolonged periods
of time Must be able to climb a ladder and work at heights for
extended periods of time Salary and Benefits Annual Salary is
$65,000-$80,000 NJ Educator's Health Plan with Free Dental and
Vision. NJ State Pension Plan. 13 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4
personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays and 5
non-designated holidays a year. 3 Partial Sick Days. Bergen
